Students of Guru Nanak College of education and research [Bhandup] celebrated Pongal in the college. This celebration was done alone with all the faculty members. It was first addressed by the principle of the college and later on by the teachers. It was hosted by the students from FYB.ED. The inaugural speech was given by the hosts. Also, they mentioned by the importance of celebrating this festival.
Various states were presented in the class as students participated and performed together. States like Tamil Nadu etc. Tamil Nadu people are very happy in Pongal they call all friends and family members etc. Pongal is a thanks giving festival celebrated throughout southern Indian. The word ‘Pongal is derived from Tamil literature and its literal meaning is ‘to boil’. Pongal ia also name of a rice based dish, which is prepared for this festival.
This festival is celebrated on the 14th of January every year. Pongal marks the initiation of the sun’s movement towords the north for a 6th month period.
Classroom were heavily decorated with colourful kites. This celebration was a unique one to cherish as everyone was divided by states, but united by the nation.
