A Guest lecture on Personality Development and Personal Hygiene, was conducted at Guru Nanak College of Education and Research, Bhandup by Mrs. Kajal Vaidyaa, on Thursday, 20th March, 2025 between 11 am to 12:30 pm. The session was enlightening and informative. The speaker began by emphasizing the importance of menstrual hygiene, discussing topics such as period cycles, cravings, physical discomfort, and mood swings. She advised the students to take good care of themselves and avoid too much of sugar intake during periods. She recommended that students incorporate physical activity into their daily routine, such as practicing yoga or engaging in some form of exercise, to promote overall well-being.

Mrs. Vaidyaa also addressed the significance of maintaining personal hygiene and highlighted the importance of grooming habits, such as combing hair, cutting nails, and wearing ironed clothes. She termed these habits as essential components of non-verbal communication. She also spoke about pubic hair and cautioned against sharing personal items like razors, menstrual cups etc. to prevent the spread of infections.

She gave an example of a girl wearing shiny outfit and glittery earrings for an interview this example led to a discussion on the appropriate clothes which a student should wear while going to an interview. The session also covered the dos and don’ts of dressing formally and wearing a sari, the speaker stressed on pinning the sari properly, maintaining decency and following a formal colour scheme. Further, the speaker emphasized on the importance of dressing neatly and following trends. She quoted, “The First impression is made in 7 seconds.”

Mrs. Vaidyaa spoke about making proper eye contact, and maintaining a good body language during interviews. She demonstrated the ideal handshake, emphasizing the importance of dry hands and a firm grip. Additionally, she discussed the significance of maintaining a 90-degree posture while sitting and instructed to avoid folded hands or hands in pockets. She also instructed to avoid playing with dupatta, earrings, hairs etc. She also offered practical advice on managing bags, files, and documents during interviews. She suggested the students to keep important documents on their right side to avoid mismanagement.

The speaker concluded the session by elaborating on self-awareness and then by conducting a small activity with the student teachers. They were asked to write down their negative points in 20 seconds, followed by their positive points in another 20 seconds. Emphasizing confidentiality, she advised the students not to share or discuss their lists with anyone. Finally, she instructed them to tear up the paper, symbolizing letting go of their negative self-perceptions. This activity aimed to help students: – Recognize and acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses, Develop self-awareness and self-acceptance and Focus on positive self-talk and self-improvement.

At the end of the session, students registered on a website and received a gift bag from P&G, containing essential personal care items including two packets of Whisper sanitary pads and one Venus razor. The guest lecture was highly informative and interactive, providing students with valuable insights into personality development and personal hygiene.
